My Top 5: Pas de Deux clips for this week!

Here are some classic pas de deux clips that I've been watching this week whilst working from home. Everyone loves a good pas de deux - whether it's one full of showing off or something more passionate and emotional. I hope there's something for everyone in my selection below. Enjoy!

Alessandra Ferri and Angel Corella, 'The Balcony Scene' from Romeo and Juliet, Teatro alla Scala

Alessandra Ferri is possibly one of the greatest Juliets of all time. Angel Corella is possibly one of the greatest Romeos of all time. Together they are so passionate and emotive. Their balcony pas de deux is other worldly and romantic – just this clip is enough to make me tear up! I love the way they look at each other and how they both portray a young couple falling in love. Swoon…

Ashley Bouder and Semyon Chudin, Tchaikovsky Pas De Deux, New York City Ballet

There is something about Ashley Bouder. She may not be as graceful or delicate as other ballerinas but that’s not her style. She is a real force and perfect for Balanchine. Watch how she shines in this clip, you can’t take your eyes off her. I especially love they way she interprets the solo with perfect balances and shining pizzazz! Chudin is lovely too, demonstrating great partnering and beautiful lines.

Yasmine Naghdi and Matthew Ball, 'Bluebird Pas De Deux' from Sleeping Beauty, The Royal Ballet

They've spent the last few years building up a successful partnership and this pas de deux demonstrates how well Naghdi and Ball dance together. Watch how light Ball is on his feet, emulating the flight and take off of a bird. Naghdi's arms melt like butter and she too makes it seem as if she is flying. They are technically on point in this clip and light up the stage!

Aurelie Dupont and Manuel Legris, 'Grand Pas' from Don Quixote, Paris Opera Ballet

I know this clip is slightly fuzzy but Dupont and Legris still manage to shine off the screen. I love the bravado and ego that they both bring to this pas de deux and their extra touches of Spanish flavour. Technically sublime, this pas de deux is pure class.

Alina Cojocaru and Johan Kobborg, Pas De Deux from Giselle, The Royal Ballet

It doesn’t get much better than Cojocaru and Kobborg in Giselle. This clip is from their early days dancing this classic ballet and they are wonderfully heart breaking. I don’t know how they do it, but the way they move and their chemistry together gives me goose bumps. Make sure you have tissues nearby!
