My Top 5: Ballerina variations this week!

Here are my top 5 ballerina variations on YouTube that I suggest you watch this week! For those working from home, indulge yourself in a nice break and take in some beauty and elegance with these inspiring videos! Enjoy x

1) Fumi Kaneko, Aurora Variation, The Royal Ballet

It doesn't get much better than Fumi Kaneko dancing the famous (and incredibly long!) variation as Aurora in The Sleeping Beauty. Just watch her control, her balances, those beautiful arms and how graceful she is with every movement. And all with a smile!

2) Jurgita Dronina, Kitri Variation, Het National Ballet

I love Jurgita Dronina. She's like the cool older sister you wish you had. I love her variation as Kitri in Don Quixote - watch the way she uses her fan, and the subtle knowing looks she flashes to the audience which are so in keeping with Kitri's cheeky character. Her tutu is great too!

3) Svetlana Zakharova, Aurora Variation, Bolshoi Ballet

This variation takes place during the dream sequence in The Sleeping Beauty. Zakharova's beautiful extension is shown off beautifully here and I love her demure expression with every step. Classical ballet at its finest!

4) Beatriz Strix-Brunell, Emeralds Variation, The Royal Ballet

Beatriz has always shone when dancing the works of Balanchine and she shimmers as brightly as an emerald in this variation from Balanchine's Jewels. I love how, even though on pointe, she is able to be so fluid and languid with every step.

5) Maria Khoreva, Odalisque Variation from Le Corsaire, Mariinsky Theatre

Maria Khoreva is fast becoming a favourite among ballet audiences in Russia. I've only ever seen her via videos on YouTube but she clearly has all of the makings of a star. She's still incredibly young but that youth and innocence shines bright in this variation!
